Hillary Kennedy is a certified Pilates and barre instructor. Her teaching career began in earnest in 2007 as the primary Pilates instructor at New Haven Ballet. Since then she has taught multiple genres all over the Connecticut Shoreline and has built a loyal and stable following. Her high energy “ You, do you” philosophy and dedication to health and wellness, has encouraged multiple clients of all ages to become strong and fit and, she has helped change the way many clients see themselves. Hillary’s classes are frequently at full capacity with a wait list, and laughter is often heard in the halls.
Once a dancer herself, and still an enormous supporter for classical ballet and dance in all forms, Hillary brings the elements so important in that art form, into every class she teaches. Emphasis is on breath, body alignment, proper technique and timely execution. Instead of following a predetermined sequence of exercises every time, Hillary creates a class choreography based on the needs and goals of her clients. The sound philosophies and techniques of Lotte Berk, Esther Fairfax, Bob Liekens, Romana, and of course Joseph Pilates are always implemented and often taught with variations which adds a delightful twist to both her mat and barre classes.
Prior to joining Fitness on the Water Hillary has taught Pilates, Ballet, classical and contemporary barre at – New Haven Ballet, Dance Unlimited, The Core Club and other local Pilates and Yoga Studios. Her certifications are from Power Pilates in New York City, Lotte Berk, Boston Body Pilates; Balanced Body approach to Barre, and Balanced Body Pilates. When she’s not teaching or taking class, she enjoys multiple sports including competitive tennis and paddle tennis. Always true to her training she is a self proclaimed “Pilates Mat Junkie”. Hillary has been recognized many times on Erica’s E List, The Source and the Privé Swiss Fitness website.
